QR Code Scavenger Hunts and Web vs Native Join

The Scavenger Hunt Apps Foundation publishes independent research. Comparisons are criteria-led and are not paid placements.

QR is a join method and a mission type

Join: poster or badge opens the game. Mission: scan codes placed on site. Do not confuse the two when you write requirements.

Print and lighting

Codes fail in glare, on curved bottles, and at night. Always provide a short URL fallback and a staff override.

Web vs native

A QR that opens a browser game avoids an app-store detour. A QR that deep-links into an app still fails if the app is not installed. Neither model is morally superior; they fit different audiences. Compare Goosechase, Scavify, Actionbound, PlayTours, Eventzee, and others on this one axis in the directory.

Analytics

Scans are not the same as completed hunts. Measure finish rate and drop-off at the first mission, not poster impressions.
